Inflamed Interactions

Acrylic On Stretched Canvas

Inflamed Interactions is a large, fully abstract painting alive with movement and gesture. There is no single subject to settle on; instead the eye travels across a shifting field of overlapping strokes, where dashes, sweeps and flecks of paint jostle and react against one another right to the edges of the canvas.

The palette is muted yet warm. Soft blues, greys and pale sage form the atmospheric ground, cut through with passages of terracotta, rust and ochre and small sparks of yellow and deep blue. Julie Tugwell layers and scumbles the paint so that colours surface and submerge, giving the work real depth and a restless, energetic rhythm that feels closer to weather or music than to any fixed image.

As a large contemporary statement, this canvas anchors a modern interior with confidence. Its balanced, understated colouring lets it sit comfortably above a sofa, in a dining room or in a considered office or reception, offering endless small discoveries while never dominating a room with harsh or jarring colour.

Style

Julie Tugwell is a contemporary South African artist whose work shares qualities with expressive, painterly traditions, favouring energetic brushwork and an emotional response to her subject over strict realism. Whether working in bold colour or a restrained, tonal palette, she captures the atmosphere and vitality of a subject rather than a literal likeness. Her paintings range across florals, landscapes, figures and abstracts, and each original artwork is made to bring warmth, character and considered sophistication to contemporary interiors.
