Pezula Lily Pond 11 is an intimate, atmospheric study of a waterlily pond. Across dark, glassy water float clusters of lily pads and blooms in coral, rose, buttery yellow and green, their soft colours warm against the deep, shadowed surface. Above them the still water mirrors overhanging trees and reeds in silvery greys and greens, dissolving reflection and reality into one another.
Julie Tugwell works in oil with a delicate, impressionistic touch, letting rippled reflections break the surface into gentle ribbons of light. The eye travels from the crowded, sunlit lilies at the centre down into the cool, mysterious depths of the pond, where pale pinks bloom again at the lower edge.
