Landscape of Colour 4 is an expressive, richly coloured landscape alive with sky and texture. A dark blue-grey cloud rolls across the upper canvas, opening to reveal a soft glow of cream, peach and pink light. Beneath, deep blue hills roll toward the horizon, and the foreground gathers into vivid strokes of gold, red, blue and pink.
Julie Tugwell handles the paint with freedom and flair, layering palette-knife marks and gestural brushwork so that the surface feels worked and living. The tension between the moody cloud and the warm, luminous light gives the painting its atmosphere, while the jewelled foreground adds energy and life.
