Conference of the Flowers
Acrylic on Unstretched Canvas

Conference of the Flowers is a large, joyful botanical scene alive with movement and colour. Tall flowering stems rise from both edges of the canvas — roses in deep pinks and reds, blue blooms and slender green foliage — meeting across a soft turquoise sky washed with lemon-yellow light. At the heart of it a hummingbird hovers mid-flight, its feathers picked out in glinting greens and blues, as if pausing among the blossoms.
The mood is buoyant and full of life. Julie Tugwell paints with loose, energetic strokes and generous colour, letting drips and gestural marks keep everything feeling fresh and in motion. The high-key palette and the arching, criss-crossing stems give the composition a light, airy sense of space, so the whole garden seems to sway and breathe.
Generous in scale, this original makes a natural focal point for a living room, dining room, entrance hall or bright office. Its uplifting colour and garden-fresh energy bring warmth, vitality and a sense of the outdoors into a contemporary interior, rewarding both a passing glance and a longer, closer look.
Style
Julie Tugwell is a contemporary South African artist whose floral work echoes the freedom and vivid colour of the Fauvist painters, favouring energetic brushwork and an emotional response to her subject over strict realism. She captures the atmosphere and vitality of a garden rather than a botanical likeness, layering expressive marks and bold, high-key colour to create original artworks that bring warmth, joy and considered sophistication to contemporary interiors.
